
Brian Desjarlais is an accomplished classical guitarist currently residing in Windsor, Ontario. Brian holds a Bachelor of Music Peformance from the University of Windsor, where he studied under acclaimed Michigan guitarist Steven Dearing. Previous to Mr. Dearing, he also studied with respected Windsor guitarist Mike McNamara. Brian recently performed in a masterclass with Marcin Dylla, winner of the 2007 Guitar Foundation of America competition.
While at the University of Windsor, Brian twice won the Arlene Janzen Memorial Scholarship for excellence in performance. In 2008 he won the Ron Ianni Scholarship Competition, awarded to the student recognized as the top performer in the school. in addition to numerous first place finishes in the regional Kiwanis Festival, he was also awarded the Most Promising Guitarist trophy.
Brian has performed throughout Southern Ontario in solo recitals, at corporate events, in pit orchestras, at private parties and at weddings; both as a solo guitarist and as a member of the Trivium Musica trio. He has twice performed in the Windsor Canadian Music Festival, where he premiered works from young composers. Brian was also heard on CBC Radio, alongside flutist Kristen Hill, in 2006.
Brian has been teaching professionally for nine years. He specializes in beginner, intermediate and advanced classical guitar. He is able to prepare students for University auditions and RCM examinations but also accepts more casual minded students.
Brian is also fully qualified to teach various styles of guitar, and accepts students interested in learning rock, jazz and blues concepts on both acoustic and electric guitar. Regardless of the style being taught, he places high importance on reading standard notation and understanding basic music theory. From young children, to parents with young children, Brian's studio is composed of students of all ages.
Brian is currently accepting students through Academie Ste Cecile in Windsor, Ontario.
